Meet Sheriff Jeff Hughes

Sheriff Jeff Hughes’ career has spanned over 40 years. Sheriff Hughes got his start in law enforcement with the Fairview Police Department in 1983. However, most of his career was spent with the Brentwood Police Department, spanning from February 1986 to February 2022. Brentwood Police Department experience includes:

  • Patrol Officer 1986 – 1990
  • Criminal Investigations Sergeant 1990 – 2000
  • Tech/Support Services Lieutenant 2000 – 2006
  • Tech/Support Services Captain 2006 – 2010
  • Assistant Chief of Police 2010 – 2012
  • Chief of Police 2012 – 2022
  • Sheriff Williamson County 2024 – Present

At the time of his retirement, Sheriff Hughes was only the third Police Chief in the history of the Brentwood Police Department.

Sheriff Hughes completed his undergraduate degree at Middle Tennessee State University (major in Criminal Justice – minor in Psychology). He is also a graduate of the Southeastern Command and Leadership Academy at the University of Tennessee (Chattanooga).

Sheriff Hughes lives on his farm just outside Fairview that was passed down through four generations. He attends the Walnut Street Church of Christ and is a lifetime member of the Brentwood Noon Rotary Club, Morris Heithcock Lodge #41 Fraternal Order of Police, and the NRA.  Jeff and his girlfriend, Kim Michaud, are huge animal lovers and enjoy spending time with their horses, dogs, and cats.
